Project Area: Mexico: Isaiah 55 Ministries
Isaiah 55 Deaf Ministries (MISIÓN ISAÍAS 55), located in Reynosa, Mexico, is a grace-based mission that evangelizes the communities of Mexico through the education of the deaf - an unreached and often neglected people group. A vital part of this mission is ministering to volunteer work teams as they join us in fulfilling the great commission.
I55 currently has one school for the deaf, Instituto Isaias 55, in operation in Reynosa, Mexico. Mexican Sign Language (MSL) is used to teach the students to communicate and to enable them to learn the basic school subjects such as: reading, writing, math, science, etc. Once a base of language is established, they can begin to teach them the Bible.
Aside from the school, I55 is involved in a variety of areas in the community. The staff at Isaiah 55 host medical/dental and construction projects designed to aid those who most need it. One of our main ongoing construction projects has been building dining halls and kitchens for underprivileged schools in and around the city. They also have been involved in various projects with the local orphanage and homeless shelter, as well as organizing VBS in various locations.
- These are some ways you can be involved...
- Bring a work team. We host one-week trips of up to as many as 100 volunteers at a time. Work teams will help in a variety of areas which may include: construction, evangelism, community outreach, and medical projects. (Extra-curricular team activities could include: VBS, food outreach to the homeless, singing at the nursing home, city clean-up projects, activities at the local government orphanage, ESL programs, vocational training for troubled teens, etc).
- Sponsorship - Be involved in the life of our school through sponsorship of students. This not only helps financially support the school, but also provides a network of prayer support for the children, as well as an opportunity to develop relationships between the sponsors and the students.
- Pray for the Isaiah 55 staff and ministry.
