Project Area: Caribbean: Haiti: Literary Aid
World Relief construction teams have assisted in the construction of over 100 schools in Haiti. In addition to the initial construction of schools, teams have also assisted in enlarging some of the previously built schools.
If a church in a community wishes to provide a school they apply to Jan Gutwein and Tim Reinhard who coordinate the work teams. They measure the grounds and provide the initial layout. The church people and members of the community provide the walls. The wall construction of the schools often consists of a combination of poles, stone and block. World Relief teams then come in and construct the roof. These work teams often assist with the construction of the school desks.
The first project was completed in 1981. Over the years over 2500 volunteers from our congregations have participated in this work. Many of these volunteers have made multiple trips.
