Project Area: Caribbean: Haiti: M.E.B.S.H.
M.E.B.S.H. stands for Evangelical Baptist Mission of South Haiti or Mission Evangélique Baptiste du Sud-Haiti. It is located in south Haiti near the City of Les Cayes. Currently M.E.B.S.H. is comprised of:
- 486 local churches divided among 56 pastoral districts and 13 administrative regions.
- 285 primary schools with a total of 49,500 students taught by 1140 professors in 1,460 classes and 869 classrooms.
- 20 secondary schools with a total of 9,000 students
- 4 professional centers
- 1 school training teachers
- 1 university with 3 facilities: medicine, nursing, and engineering.
- 30 institutions with various goals,
- Missionary personnel that number around 30.
Some of the programs of M.E.B.S.H. that World Relief helps support and fund through the Caribbean Committee are:
- Centre de Sante Lumiere: An outpatient clinic, which receives more than a hundred patients each week. It is comprised of a pharmacy, a laboratory, an x-ray department and a prosthetic workshop.
- Clinic Dental Lumiere: A dental clinic with modern equipment and a Dental prosthetic workshop.
- Hospital Lumiere: A surgical hospital with 120 beds and 4 operating rooms where Haitian and American doctors perform thousands of operations.
- Sante Communautaire: Teaches community health in rural communities as well as offering vaccination, family planning, and breast-feeding clinics.
- Centre Lumiere: This work helps shape about 30 Haitian youth in the profession of teacher (4 years). This work and the schools that have resulted across the country have helped develop a local industry the products of which are sold in Haiti and in other countries. Van Wert, OH 45891 - Integrated Rural Development: Is concerned with different projects such as: well-drilling, construction of roads, reforestation, raising livestock, veterinary care for small breeders in view of a good sense of return, creation of cooperatives, teaching and teaching methods, upgrade of roads with most of the work done by hand. There are also credit programs, vocational centers, literacy programs and rural clinics.
- Child Care: This program provides financial aid to orphans and needy children. There are around 2,000 children and 77 schools involved in the program.
- Construction Department: This department is involved in supplying roofs for schools as well as maintaining the administrative buildings of the Mission.
- Camp Elim: This is a summer camp for young people. There is also a school on the premises that serves over 400 children.
- Other Activities: include a garage for the repair of vehicles, a senior citizens home, bookstore, printing shop, missionary children’s department, women’s department and others.
Financial assistance is given by the support of:
- Apostolic Christian brethren serving both full time and part time in Haiti.
- Five construction work teams per year.
- Five to six sea containers shipments per year.
- Purchase of lumber and roofing material in the US and sent to Haiti for construction.
- Funding of various medical projects, the retirement & handicapped homes.
- Vocational schools support and oversight, and three work teams per year.
- Well drilling supplies, training, and three work teams per year.
- Funding for vehicles used by our work teams for travel and hauling materials to job site.
