Project Area: Mexico: Medical Teams

  • Juarez

The earthquake of 1985 left Mexico in a tragic position. With extensive destruction and many homeless people, our Apostolic Christian World Relief responded to the needs, and started to help with rebuilding. Though this outreach, we became acquainted with Chito and Lydia Auguilar, the A.M.M.A.R. general directors, who shared their vision of spread the gospel to the marginal Mexican. Our ministry in Juarez started in 1989.

Granjas and K 20) are located. These community centers were built by Apostolic Christian work teams to facilitate spreading the gospel through feeding programs for children, medical consultations, and currently a school. Chito and Lydia’s mission is to reach the poor, through providing basic needs, services and ministry to the Mexicans.

Twice a year, medical-dental teams provide a medical-dental campaign in Juarez. We set our358969-691303-thumbnail.jpg clinic up outside with our portable tents. We treat approximately 600 – 1000 people per day by providing vital sign checks, consults to MDs, medications, health education, therapy services, and dental care. Children from local schools visit our dental clinic. Using the health kits made back home, we teach them how to brush their teeth and then give them the health kit. The gospel message of salvation is preached to the people as medical and dental care is given free of charge. Hearts are being changed and the Good Word is being spread! Before heading home, the Mexicans stop at the health358969-691301-thumbnail.jpg maintenance tent. Many smiles and “mucho gracias” are shared as the Mexican receives a health kit, school kit, layette, lotion, farm cap, comforters, toy, and/or food.

358969-691305-thumbnail.jpgAny medical or nonmedical talents can be used! We especially have a need for dental personnel, physicians, NPs, pharmacists, nurses, therapists, dieticians, and interpreters. If unable to go on a medical –dental team, you can help support this ministry by making the supplies on the needs list.

Sometimes instead of going to Juarez for our campaign, we will travel another 300 miles from Juarez to Copper Canyon located near Creel, Mexico. This is the home of the Tarahumara Indians, known as the “Running Indians”. The team to Copper Canyon provides medical care to the Indians. The medical-dental team to Copper Canyon is very similar to the type of campaign that we do in Juarez. The difference is we that see about half the people and thus take less Americans.

  • Ixtlan & Magdalena Mexico:
Since 2003, small teams of EMTs, firemen, and nurses have provided CPR, AED, First Aid, and Disaster Preparedness Training for the local ambulances in Ixtlan and Magdalena. The highlight of the team is putting all the training together and practice by doing a mock accident simulation.  CVE staff is also included in the training.  Volunteers needed are EMTs, Firemen, or nurses with emergency or critical care experience.
