Project Areas: Caribbean: Haiti: Palm Grove Mission
The Palm Grove Mission is the title used by Apostolic Christian World Relief and our brethren for a mission in Haiti. The official title of the mission in Haiti is Chapelle Evangilique. The work
of the Mission was started by Eris Labady in 1978 in response to the needs of the Haitian people in his home area and Port Au Prince. Eris is a Haitian man who grew up in a Catholic home near the Southern Coast of the Southern Peninsula of Haiti. During Eris’ early years, he and his brother were very ill, with no medical solution to the ailment available.
After a series of unsuccessful Catholic and Voodoo healing efforts, Eris’ father was drawn to a Christian group, who through prayer and supplication asked God for healing. The family was converted and baptised as a result of the love God showered upon them.
The Mission’s focus is spiritual growth through repentance, baptism and conversion through the planting of churches and raising pastors within the local community to lead. The mission supports the earthly needs of the Haitian people in the communities where there are churches by educating children and providing water resources through wells and piped water systems. The majority of the churches and schools are in rural areas, with two in Port Au Prince. Presently there are 11 Churches and 10 Schools.
