Service Positions in Haiti  


The Child Sponsorship and the Caribbean Committees are seeking to fill 4 positions to support the current Apostolic Christian World Relief programs in and around Les Cayes, Haiti.  

1. Child Care Administrator
2. Child Care and Caribbean Committee Clerical Support

The Child Sponsorship Committee provides financial and administrative support to the MEBSH Child Care program where there is a need for a brother with administrative experience and a sister with clerical skills.

3. Operations Facilitator

The Caribbean Committee is looking to fill an operations facilitator position to support the Apostolic Christian World Relief Trade School, Well Drilling, and Material Aid programs.

4. Hospital Administrator and Chief Operating Officer

The Caribbean Committee is searching for a Hospital administrator who will be acting as the Chief Operating officer for Hospital Lumiere at Bonne fin, Haiti.  Under the direction of the Hospital board, the administrator is to enable the hospital to provide, in a Godly way, the best care possible within the Haiti environment.  

Terms of Service

  • Full time residing in Haiti
  • Housing provided adjacent to other brethren and missionaries
  • Initial year of service requires a significant period of time studying Haitian Creole and assimilating into the Haitian culture.
  • Training will be provided prior to placement in the field.

1. Child Care Administrator

Position Description

Overview

  • Represent the Child Sponsorship Committee and provide administration and Caribbean program support.
  • Assist construction program coordinator with planning for construction projects, distribution of materials and work teams.
  • Assist ACWR missionary team as resource to meet program objectives for all programs as required.
  • Part time position (20-25 hrs/week) shared with the Caribbean Committee efforts in Les Cayes Haiti.  Work in partnership with the MEBSH Child Care Director to ensure a Christ centered education is provided to the students within the ACWR Child Sponsorship program.
  • Provide leadership in the overall operation of the program and act as a liaison to the ACWR Child Sponsorship Committee through an assigned member.  Assist with promotion of the program.  This may include helping create promotional materials, writing a newsletter, giving presentations in the U.S., etc.  
  • The Administrator is responsible for oversight and assignment of appropriate resources to the following primary activities of the program (in priority order):


Quality Education

  • Christ centered
  • Regular church attendance of each sponsored student.
  • Standards for teachers along with opportunities to enhance skills.
  • Develop programs to recognize students who have high achievement and/or improvement.


Reconciliation of Accounts

  • Monthly reporting and problem solving to provide financial accountability to donor organizations.
  • Bank to Quicken.
  • Quicken to Program.


School Visits

  • Verify sponsored student attendance.
  • Track sponsored student count vs. total.


Correspondence

  • Raise the quality and frequency of letters.
  • Develop creative ways to enhance the relationship between sponsor and student.
  • Develop and maintain an all digital picture update process to send pictures to sponsors annually.


Staff Management

  • Develop and maintain written position descriptions for each staff member.
  • Participate with MEBSH Director in bi-annual reviews with each staff member.


Administration

  • Work to eliminate duplicate systems and enhance processes for accomplishing the above key activities.


Key qualifications

  • Know or learn Creole or French.
  • Administrative / supervision experience.
  • Accounting background.
  • Education background.
  • Maturity to appreciate the cultural differences while taking the MEBSH program to a higher level of performance.
  • Any other duties that may from time to time be assigned by the committee.

2. Child Care Clerical Support

Position Description

Overview

  • Clerical support for the Child Care office.
  • Part time position (20-25 hrs / week) shared with the Caribbean Committee efforts in Les Cayes Haiti.  
  • Work in partnership with the ACWR Child Sponsorship Haiti Administrator and MEBSH Child Care Director to provide clerical support to the MEBSH Child Care office in Simon, Haiti.  
  • The specific duties and responsibilities will be determined in the field, but may include the following:


Reconciliation of Accounts

  • Assist with the monthly reporting and problem solving to provide financial accountability to donor organizations.
  • Bank to Quicken.
  • Quicken to Program.


Correspondence

  • Raise the quality and frequency of letters.
  • Support creative ways to enhance the relationship between sponsor and student.
  • Assist the developing and maintaining an all digital picture update process to send pictures to sponsors annually.


Administration

  • Provide administration support as needed.
  • Conduct regular backup of computer systems.


Key qualifications

  • Know or learn Creole or French.
  • Computer skills with word, excel, access, quicken, internet, email, etc.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Organization skills important.
  • Flexible to do whatever is necessary to be completed.

3. Operations Facilitator

Position Description

Overview

  • Full time position 50-60 hours per week.
  • Mechanical skills to maintain vehicles and equipment.
  • People and Management skills to Monitor, Assist, and facilitate multiple ministries.
  • Provide accountability reports from the various ministries to the associated boards.


Interpersonal communication and accountability

  • Pray for team members regularly; strive for love and harmony not only in word or tongue, but in deed and in truth. (I John 3:18)
  • Actively assist/mentor part time or intern volunteers during their time in country.
  • Monthly  accountability reports completed and turned in.
  • Participate in all team planning and communication meetings or exercises.
  • Share specific work schedule and absence plans with team members at team meetings consistently; on a weekly basis.
  • Communicate interruptions or schedule changes to the other team members as they unfold.


Assist in Trade School operations

Trade Schools - Petit Trou, Chantal, Vieux Bourg Achin

  • Planning and facilitation assistance for three teams annually - schedule and communicate meeting times with the school boards; travel assistance, and translation services are required.
  • Present Bibles to graduates at school graduations.
  • Monthly visits to each school to conduct assessments and deliver the FRW stipends and childcare support.
  • Build relationship with the leadership of the trade schools.
  • Complete monthly school assessment forms and communicate findings.
  • Facilitate and attend planning sessions and provide translation for new schools as the Lord leads.

Port A Pimet

  • Provide occasional facilitation and communication assistance as requested.

IRD

  • Provide occasional facilitation, accountability, and communication assistance as requested.

Simone Orphanage

  • Liaison to the orphanage, deliver funds.
  • Maintenance as needed.
  • Conduct assessments and communicate results per agreed upon detail and frequency.
  • Provide assistance to work teams who come to work at the orphanage.


Well Drilling

  • Planning and facilitation assistance for two/three teams annually - schedule and communicate meeting times; travel assistance. Translation and cultural awareness assistance (especially during MEBSH high level mtgs.); cultural assistance will also be an important part of this role when groups come from the States.
  • Visit both the base and job sites one or two times per week
  • Managing material inventory.
  • Manage communications between the Haitian well drillers and brethren in the states.


Shipping

  • Coordinate material aid needs with Apostolic Christian World Relief(ACWR) Haiti Material Aid coordinator
  • Responsible for accounting associated with container shipments
  • Communications; coordination with custom agents to clear containers through customs and coordinate transportation of containers from Port Au Prince to Les Cayes.


Vehicle Maintenance

  • Responsible for ACWR fleet maintenance program; if maintenance is delegated to others, the facilitator will be responsible to verify maintenance work has been performed properly (test drive or other mode of assessment) before turning the vehicle back over to operations. The facilitator is ultimately responsible for all repairs.
  • Communicate vehicle maintenance schedule weekly at team meetings; develop/communicate list of future maintenance needs/plans.


Construction Department Support

  • Provide support to the Construction Department director and program facilitating distribution of materials to building sites and hosting construction department work teams.


Key qualifications

  • Fluent in Creole or French or the desire and ability to learn, willing to immerse into the Haitian culture.
  • Interpersonal skills along with the ability to inspire and lead
  • Moderate to advanced shop and mechanical skills
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Demonstrated communication and organizational skills.
  • Flexability to adapt schedules and plans.

4. Hospital Lumiere Administrator and Chief Operating Officer

Position Description

Overview

  • Chief Operating Officer directly in charge of Hospital Lumiere reporting to the US executive Director.  Directly responsible for the successful operation of the missionary Hospital to provide efficient medical services guided by Biblical principles, focusing on the physical, emotional, mental, and Spiritual well-being of all patients, staff, and the community.
  • Involved in all aspects of Hospital operations and management:
  • Standards of care are developed and practiced in areas of: admissions and discharge procedures, communication and cooperation among staff to ensure professional patient care, procedures put in practice to insure various facilities used in diagnostics and treatments are functioning well
  • Proper accountability and recordkeeping in the areas of Patient finances, payroll, medical records, laboratory testing, Pharmacy, and facility functions.
  • Using all appropriate mediums, ensure there is complete and open communications in all facets of the Hospital including development and implementation of personnel policies, job descriptions, quality assurances, new and improved practices to support excellent patient care, be an advocate for the rights of patients, liaison between all departments and management entities.
  • Consistently evaluate needs of community and quality of services provided by Hospital
  • Maintain optimal staff to provide 24/7 care.


Personal Qualities

  • The function of the Administrator is one of the most important in the hospital.  The Administrator must be a person of integrity, high moral standards, and capable of leadership so as to command the confidence and respect of the Haitian and expatriate staff. 
  • The leadership should demonstrate patience, kindness and firmness. 
  • There must be sensitivity to the Haitian culture, a desire to serve God and others, and a willingness to demonstrate accountability. 
  • Training in management, business accounting, human resources or personnel management, and some tropical or third-world medical understanding will be helpful. 
  • The mission of the Administrator must be to ensure that Hospital Lumiere is a place of healing and a lighthouse of the lost.

Short Term Service Opportunity


The ACWR Caribbean Committee is seeking an individual (or couple) to assist in Haiti.  This position is an opportunity to serve short term (4-12 weeks) in the MEBSH Construction Department in Simon, Les Cayes, Haiti.  

Bro. Tim Reinhard (ACWR) manages the construction department of MEBSH, which has approximately 485 churches in southern Haiti.  The individual will assist Bro. Tim in planning for construction projects, distribution of materials and hosting work teams.  An individual with a general construction background is preferred.

The time period for this opening is 4-12 weeks in January-March 2011.
