A strategic planning session was held Friday, April 17. The Board chose to adopt the fourth pillar of the Apostolic Christian Church as a vision statement for World Relief: “To offer loving, humble deeds of service to fellow believers and all mankind in the name of Christ”. Four strategies were chosen to make this vision a reality:
- Communication
- World Relief Organization
- Effectiveness and Execution of Projects
- Church Family Participation
Saturday April 18, the Board met for its regular spring meeting.
Summary of the major topics of discussion:
Communication Committee: Provided an updated Directory of WR Organizations and Projects that will be forwarded to all local WR representatives. The Committee explained the importance of our communication being of one voice and presented the concept of Viral Communication where people who are motivated about something will tell others.
Caribbean Committee: Expecting a busy season of work teams in both Haiti and Jamaica. All the projects are going well and the housing project for the brethren serving in Haiti is progressing.
Child Sponsorship: Committee distributes about $540,000 of support to children, 61% in Haiti, 20% in Jamaica, 16% in Mexico and 3% in Guatemala.
Distribution Centers: Donations from food companies are down as a result of economic conditions. A brother had the opportunity to travel to Tajikistan to observe the delivery of a grain shipment.
European Committee: Our brethren in Eastern Europe are facing harder economic difficulties this year. A work team is planning to go to Hungary and asked for prayers for the project and the opportunity to fellowship.
India Committee: Reminded us of the spiritual persecution in India and asked for our prayers. The English Medium School continues to progressand Dr. Ashwin Parkhe and his wife began working with RGMMI in Nashik.
International Grants: Approved a computer lab at a children's home in Ukraine, sewing machines and computers for a girls’ home in Ethiopia, and a food program for school children. Grants were also provided for assistance for a farm purchase in Uganda, assistance for food shipments to Zimbabwe, a mobile medical clinic and a Dr.’s residency in Indonesia. Disaster funds were allocated for a bridge in Ethiopia.
Mexico Committee: There were three successful work teams to Aqua Prietaand work teams continue at Magdalena and Reynosa. The church in Magdalena had their dedication last month. The violence in Juarez continues preventing the medical team from visiting this spring. We are helping to rebuild a home that was burned. The father of this family has helped our work teams for many years.
USA Committee: Gave an update on the work in Oakville and their plans to complete the work project in the community there at the end of May. We will continue to support local work projects in the community. Financial support was given to Bethany Home, Galilean Home, Berean Ministries, Southside Mission, Peoria Rescue Mission, Midwest Food Bank, Echo Project, Loving Shepherd Ministries, Alabama Preschool, His Ranch and Harbor House.
