Project Areas: USA: How to Help
The USA Committee’s activities fall into three categories:
- Disaster Response for storms, fires and other calamities.
- Local work projects.
- Support for non-profit organizations, which serve those in need.
Disaster Response has two types of activities as listed. For information and involvement, please contact the USA Committee.
- First Response - assessment and cleanup after disasters.
- Long Term Work Projects - repair, rebuilding, or new construction following disasters. Current projects: Katrina hurricane and Greensburg, KS tornado.
Local Work Projects were started to give opportunity for churches to have opportunities for
volunteerism that do not require a specific number of days commitment, nor long travel time and miles. An effort is made to get each congregation to suggest and organize a project of approximate one week, or less, in length. Three tool trailers and one truck are equipped for First Response and construction opportunities. An equipment manager will be assigned to each trailer. This equipment is available for local projects. Please schedule the equipment for the time needed.
It is the committee’s recommendation that individuals become aware of local needs and discuss the needs with their World Relief Representative for establishment of local work projects. Individuals wanting project support should contact the USA Committee. Volunteer opportunities will be announced by the World Relief Board Administrator, as they become available.
Supporting non-profit organizations - These organizations serve the poor and needy with food, clothing, and shelter, and other segments of our society where we do not have the facilities, or the capacity to do so. For more information, contact Bro. Arnold Gerst. Some of the organizations are:
- The Galilean Home, Liberty, KY
- Bethany Children’s Home, Bethany, KY
- Empty Tomb, Champaign, IL
- Berean Prison Ministries, Peoria, IL
- South Side Mission, Peoria, IL
- Navajo Nation, Arizona and New Mexico
- Echo Project, North Fort Myers, FL
We encourage those with a heart to help others to become involved in World Relief activities. Work projects provide opportunities for everyone who is willing to give of themself. The project opportunities are not just for the skilled, but for all those willing to work and labor together. Your local World Relief Representative will be able to direct you to the proper individual or source of information.
