What does a medical/dental work team do?
Twice a year teams consisting of up to 40 people are sent for seven days. A team leader will assist in transportation, reservations, and all other arrangements. The work team stays together in a safe, clean motel, usually in Juarez or sometimes in the Copper Canyon area.
Each morning begins with a prayer and a short worship service. The team travels to the worksite by vans to set up medical/dental clinics in poor neighborhoods and remote locations. The medical team assists the local Mexican doctors by assessing vital signs, helping with procedures and check-ups, providing health education, dispensing free medication, and sharing God’s love to the people. A smile will go a long way in any language!
The dental team provides basic dental care and cleaning. Non-medical people are also needed to help distribute items including health kits and Bibles. There will be many opportunities for fellowship, inspiration, and encouragement, along with countless stimulating experiences to taste and see a culture very different from the USA.
Mexico does not currently require passports or visas, but some form of identification is needed. (NOTE: starting in January 2008, passports will be required.) Immunization is recommended, but not required by the health department.
Supplies and medicines are funded by World Relief. The cost for transportation, food, and lodging are generally assumed by each volunteer, although financial support can be made available if needed.

A work team opportunity is not a vacation and will require hard work. When volunteers go to help others they are ambassadors for Jesus Christ and are also representing the Apostolic Christian Church. It is important that our work team volunteers reflect their love for God and the church by their actions and appearance. In this way we will communicate the gospel message, our faith, doctrine and customs which have great value.
